また今年も、かまきりが家の玄関の扉に卵を産卵した。古い木の温もりがかまきりの安心感を誘うのだろうか。もしかしたら、立て付けの悪くなった扉をあけるときの振動が、卵に良い影響を与えでもするというのか。きっと、ここなら天敵も近寄らないと踏んでの親心なのだろう。すると親には、この家の住人は危害を加えない、という心づもりでもあるというのか。ずいぶんと甘く見られたものだ。きっとどこぞで雄をたいらげてから、産卵に踏み切ったのだろう。いままさに卵を産み膨らませているまっただ中の雌のおしりをみやりながら、ベイビーカマキリたちの生まれるその日を楽しみに思い巡らせる。
